Visiting Artist Workshop: Seeing Color in Neutrals with Erin Raedeke

Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 – 4:00pm, November 8 & 9, 2025

 

 

Seeing Color in Neutrals is an oil or acrylic workshop designed to train the eye to recognize the subtle temperature shifts and hidden hues in observational painting. Through focused exercises using still life, students will explore how to fully use all color both low-chroma and vibrant color, to create depth, mood, and harmony. Emphasis will be placed on mixing complex neutrals, utilizing saturation, and pushing color expression through color combinations and relationships.

Minimum age 14. 2 sessions.

Workshop Supply List – Colors that will be on my palette

Cadmium Lemon

Yellow Ochre or Mars Yellow (optional)

Cadmium Red Medium

Alizarin Crimson

Quinacridone Red (optional)

Gamblin Cadmium Orange (this is an American Brand, Cad Yellow Deep is close)

French Ultramarine Blue (or Ultramarine Blue)

Williamsburg Sevre’s Blue or Cerulean Blue Hue

Chromium Oxide (an opaque mid tone green)

Phthalo Green

Dioxazine Violet/Purple

Raw or Burnt Umber

Titanium White

Brushes:

A mix of rounds, flats and filberts, ranging in size 2 to 12.  A variety of bristle and sable is ideal.

2 Surfaces:

Canvas, Linen or board. Please use a size that you are comfortable with.
