Experimental Drawing: Intermediate to Advanced Level Artist

 

Class Start Date:  September 22, End Date:  November 17

Days: Fridays,   Time: 9:30 -12:00pm

This course emphasizes the artistic importance of drawing.  We’ll explore a range of drawing methods: both traditional and nontraditional techniques.  We’ll focus on increasing visual sensitivity, cultivating technical skills, and understanding the steps of building a drawing. $20 model fee paid in class. For students under the age of 18, you and your parent/guardian must obtain instructor permission prior to enrollment in this class. Minimum age 16.

Class 3) October 6 – Sketching!  Drawing out of the studio: Part 1

            ink or watercolor pencils, “Aquastroke” Brush Pens, cut BFK paper

Class 4) October 13– Sketching! Drawing out of the studio: Part 2

            brush pen on sketchbook paper

Class 5) October 20 – Figure Drawing, Gesture, simple proportions, short poses

            Vine charcoal, kneaded erasers and newsprint paper

Class 6) October 27 – Figure Drawing, “Shadow Blocking” Part 1

            vine and compressed charcoal on newsprint or white charcoal paper

Class 7) November 3 – Figure Drawing, “Shadow Blocking” Part 2

            Pigma brush pen on white drawing paper

Class 8) November 10 – Figure Drawing, “Aquastroke and Ink Pencils”

ink or watercolor pencils, “Aquastroke” Brush Pens, BFK paper

Class 9) November 17 – Figure Drawing, “Colored Conte on Colored Paper”

            Bistre and Sanguine conte on Mi Tintes pastel paper

 

FREE CLASS!!!  Class 9) Friday, November 17 – 12:00 – 3:30pm- lunch/critique (Bring food!) – Bring up to 5 paintings/drawings to be critiqued by the group (open to all) Critique begins at 1:00pm

 

Please note that there is a class model fee of $20 per person for the class (5 models, five days) please make the check (or cash) out to Jordan BrunsThere are also paper costs that are for specific exercises but feel free to bring your own paper as long as it matches what we’re using in class.  I buy in bulk so can sell it at cost.

Sketchbook

Pencils – 6H, 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B

Vine or Willow (soft) charcoal

2 “Pigma brush pens” BR

“Aquastroke” Brush Pens (they hold water)

Black, White, Bistre and Sanguine conte crayons (comes in pack called “matchbox”)

Derwent Inktense Pencil Set, Assorted Color, 12-Tin – Note: watercolor pencils will work too

Extra Large kneaded eraser

White Plastic Eraser

Drawing board large enough for 18×24” paper (optional)

Acid Free Artist Tape
