Experimental Drawing: Intermediate to Advanced Level Artist

 

Class Start Date:  January 26, End Date:  March 23 (end date subject to change due to weather/snow)

Days: Fridays,   Time: 9:30 -12:00pm

This course emphasizes the artistic importance of drawing.  We’ll explore a range of drawing methods: both traditional and nontraditional techniques.  We’ll focus on increasing visual sensitivity, cultivating technical skills, and understanding the steps of building a drawing. $20 model fee paid in class. For students under the age of 18, you and your parent/guardian must obtain instructor permission prior to enrollment in this class. Minimum age 16.

Class 1) January 26 – “Water Soluble Drawing Media Still Life”

             watercolor paper, conte, water soluble graphite, white gouache (optional)

Class 2) February 2 – “Water Soluble Drawing Media Still Life”

             watercolor paper, conte, water soluble graphite, white gouache (optional)

Class 3) February 9 – “Ink Wash and Pen and Ink” from photo

            black and white photo, calligraphy pen, watercolor brushes, black ink, ink palette

Class 4) February 16– “Ink Wash and Pen and Ink” from photo

            black and white photo, calligraphy pen, watercolor brushes, black ink, ink palette

Class 5) February 23– Figure Drawing, Gesture, simple proportions, short poses

            Vine charcoal, kneaded erasers and newsprint paper

Class 6) March 2 – Figure Drawing, “Diebenkorn Revisions”

Vine charcoal, kneaded erasers, compressed charcoal and newsprint paper

Class 7) March 9 – Figure Drawing, “Shadow Blocking”

            vine and compressed charcoal on newsprint or white charcoal paper

Class 8) March 16 – Figure Drawing, “Two Figures, the Space Between”

white charcoal paper, compressed charcoal, kneaded erasers, vine charcoal

Class 9) March 23 – Figure Drawing, “Out of Comfort Drawing”

vine charcoal, erasers, colored drawing media and newsprint and drawing paper

 

FREE CLASS!!!  Class 9) Friday, March 23 – 12:00 – 3:30pm- lunch/critique (Bring food!) – Bring up to 5 paintings/drawings to be critiqued by the group (open to all) Critique begins at 1:00pm

 

Please note that there is a class model fee of $25 per person for the class (6 models, five days) please make the check (or cash) out to Jordan BrunsThere are also paper costs that are for specific exercises but feel free to bring your own paper as long as it matches what we’re using in class.  I buy in bulk so can sell it at cost.  I do paper costs as needed in case you miss class.

Vine or Willow (soft) charcoal

Compressed charcoal or black pastel

Extra Large kneaded eraser

White Plastic Eraser

Drawing board large enough for 18×24” paper (optional)

Acid Free Artist Tape

Water Soluable Graphite stick

Black ink – acrylic based, sumi or india ink

Ink/watercolor palette

Watercolor brushes, 1” flat, rounds

calligraphy pen or quill pen, dip pen
